The authors were very thorough in explaining each application and each stage of the process. This was a weak aspect in my article. It was also helpful that they used some of the common application such as crime mapping to explain the taxonomy. These types of visual analytics are not just geared toward helping the decision makers, but also helping the analysts identify patterns and trends in the raw data. Oftentimes, it seems as though individuals working with visual tools believe it is better simply because it is a visual over a written product. This is not always the case. The visual product and tool must display the information in an effective manner in order for it to provide an effective portrayal of the issue or data. Overall, the article seemed to shed light on the potential visualization has in terms of the the analyst, consumer relationship and as mentioned above, more effective lines of communication.
